Madagascar cyclone death toll rises

The death toll from Cyclone Giovanna, which hit Madagascar earlier this week, has risen to 16, officials say.

More than 10,000 people have been left homeless after the category 4 storm made landfall on Tuesday, the National Disaster Management Office said.

Some 3,380 homes and 38 schools have been destroyed.

Winds during the storm exceeded 200km per hour.

Aid agencies say they are preparing to deliver relief.
