Joburg is SA’s greenest city: Index

African Green City Index shows that Johannesburg has the lowest greenhouse gas emissions per capita among South Africa’s four major cities.

Joburg also has the lowest per capita electricity consumption and the second-highest amount of green space among 15 African cities surveyed by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

The city’s executive mayor Parks Tau, who recently spoke to South Africa Magazine, said the long-term strategy for Africa’s economic hub was underpinned by sustainability.

He will next year announce new projects aimed at making Johannesburg a "green city" by 2040.
