Dilshan resigns as Sri Lanka captain following disastrous SA tour

Tillakaratne Dilshan (pictured) has resigned as Sri Lanka's captain in all three formats of the game following his team's disastrous tour of South Africa.

The 35-year-old took up the captaincy on a series-to-series basis after Kumar Sangakkara stepped down after the 2011 World Cup final.

The side lost both the Test and one-day series in South Africa.

"Dilshan has resigned as captain in all three formats of the game," Sri Lanka Cricket said, without naming a successor.
